How ClosetShot uses AI
ClosetShot uses generative artificial intelligence to create new images from the photos you provide. When you choose a background, a tidied version, or an on-model shot, an AI model generates a new image based on your photo. It is not a filter or a crop of your original.
Some features run entirely on your device and involve no AI generation — background removal, colour correction, enhance, blur, and detail crops. These preserve your original pixels.
What this means for your listings
A generated image is not a photograph of your item.
AI models can introduce differences you didn’t ask for. In our testing, the most common are:
- Colour shifts — a faded black can come back true black; gold can warm or cool
- Texture changes — fabric weave, metal finish, and stone detail can be re-rendered
- Printed detail — logos, graphics, and text on garments may be redrawn imperfectly
- Paired items — earrings, shoes, and other pairs may not come back perfectly matched
- Fit and drape — on-model images show how a garment might look, not how it fits a specific body
Always compare the generated image against your actual item before you publish it.
What we do to protect accuracy
- Our prompts instruct models to preserve your item’s colour, shape, materials, printing, and hardware.
- We explicitly instruct models to preserve visible wear, stains, holes, and fading. We do not offer any feature that hides damage, and we don’t want you to accidentally misrepresent condition.
- Where we detect a higher risk of alteration — large printed graphics, for example — we warn you before you spend credits, and you choose whether to continue.
- We record which AI model produced each image, so we can investigate if something goes wrong.
Your responsibilities
- The item you ship must match what your listing shows.
- Do not use a generated image that misrepresents colour, condition, size, materials, or what’s included.
- Disclose AI-generated imagery where the marketplace requires it. Policies differ and change — check the rules of the platform you’re selling on.
- Don’t use ClosetShot to create images suggesting an item includes packaging, accessories, or branding it doesn’t have.
- On-model images are illustrative. Fit shown is not a representation of how the garment will fit any particular person.
Watermarking and provenance
Some AI providers embed invisible provenance markers (such as SynthID) in generated images. These are not visible and don’t affect image quality, but they mean a generated image may be identifiable as AI-generated by tools that detect them. We think that’s reasonable, and we’d rather you knew.
Copyright
The legal status of AI-generated images varies by country. In the United States, works generated entirely by AI without sufficient human authorship may not be eligible for copyright protection. We grant you all rights we have in the images ClosetShot produces for you, and you may use them commercially — but we cannot guarantee they are protectable by copyright. If this matters for your business, take your own legal advice.
Your photos are not used for training
We do not use your photos or generated images to train AI models, and we contractually require our processing providers not to either.
